Managing a client's expectations about the timeframes on a project can often be a deal breaker. Just as they don't want to go over on their budget, not meeting the clients' desired completion date can leave them feeling, at best, disappointed or, at worst, inclined to seek damages.

As one of the 3 Pillars of a Project, managing timelines is an essential part of a designer or architect's brief. Although we're not responsible for managing the construction schedule, we are required to set and update milestones for completion of individual design stages as outlined in our scope. How and when to do this is the cause of a lot of anxiety for many designers and architects.

Not only does an effective project schedule help manage clients' expectations and assist in the smooth running of a project, it also helps designers with their own business planning: allowing more accurate financial forecasting and ensuring they have enough resources (staff) to get the jobs done in time.

In this final Free Member Coaching for the year, we will delve into all of the aspects of setting and managing timeframes on projects. As always, we encourage members to submit their questions prior to the session (priority will be given to those who fill out the questionnaire).
