In this full day Masterclass, industry icon Andrew Parr will share with us his process for delivering unique, award-winning residences based on the combination of a detailed client brief, and a deep appreciation of the energy and essence of the built form and surrounding environment.

“The house made me do it” references the importance of interpreting and embracing the key elements of the architecture, be it existing or proposed, and allowing the prominent and underlying tones of energy inform the overall design vision.

By studying and reflecting upon the architectural form, environmental features, colouration and fabric of a house, Andrew is able to identify when and how to reference and embrace the history of an existing building and recognise when to amplify its modernity and impression to create a design that is both sympathetic to the client brief and evolved within its surrounds.

ABOUT ANDREW:

One of Australia’s leading interior designers, Andrew Parr has been setting the standard for high-end residential and hospitality design for more than 25 years. Andrew’s unique interpretation of contemporary minimalist style is particularly suited to clients who value ideas as much as they value longevity.

“On hospitality and high-end residential projects, I’m often asked to bring new ideas into the design. This is something I really enjoy as a designer as it grants me the freedom to experiment and push some boundaries,” he says. “That said, part of being a good designer is ensuring your selections – even the unorthodox ones – are aligned with the client’s vision.”

Andrew founded the interior design discipline at SJB in 1994 and has made it his life’s work to ensure the SJB legacy is a valuable one. “I want to look back over my work and know my projects have stood the test of time – with enduring quality and design that remains relevant.”

Andrew loves what he does and says the most rewarding part of a project is when it’s nearing completion. “The adrenalin is rushing, everyone is excited, anticipating the full realisation of the design vision. It’s a good time to be coming to work,” he says.

The Royce Hotel in Melbourne, Adina Hotels in Australia and throughout Europe, Arco Residence and Villa d’ Arte in Melbourne are among Andrew’s most recent work and each showcases his ability to reshape, reinvent and craft beautiful, inviting and enduring places.
